Homeschool Diploma
In order to earn a home school diploma, a student must pass a state mandated test. This is equivalent to a high school equivalency test. The test is taken by the student in a state run facility and after several weeks, the child finds out if he or she passed the test. He or she is then issued the Homeschool Diploma that signifies that he or she has graduated high school.
Some parents who educate their children at home also offer a home school diploma for grammar school graduation. There is a large network of home schooling parents and they often get together for ceremonies such as grammar school graduation or high school graduation. A home school diploma is a general education diploma and is basically the same as a regular high school diploma or grammar school diploma. It can be attained anywhere that you get home schooling supplies.
A home school diploma is merely a piece of paper. It looks nice in a frame and signifies that a student has worked hard and graduated from school. However, it is the transcripts as well as SAT and ACT scores that truly matter when it comes to educational documents. A college is not going to ask to see a diploma. As a matter of fact, no one will probably ever ask to see a high school diploma.
In order to pass both grammar school and high school, a student who is home schooled has to take a number of state mandated tests. In addition to the home school diploma test, they also have to take a test each year to make sure that they are learning properly. If they are not doing well with the home schooling, the home schooling charter may be revoked. While most parents home school for the right reasons, there are those who do not feel that education is necessary and use the home school laws as a way to get their child out of going to school so he or she can work in the family business. In the United States, each child is guaranteed the right to an education until he or she is 18 years old.
If a child is passing the state tests and all is going well with the home schooling, the charter is kept in place and the student is allowed to continue learning at home until he or she graduates high school. Some parents only home school until the child graduates grammar school and then allow them to enroll in high school. Other parents continue this alternative form of education until the child is finished high school and earns a home school diploma.
Children who earn a home school diploma are usually more academically advanced than those who learn in a traditional setting. This is due to the fact that they have all of the attention of the parent teacher and access to them 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
However, children who are schooled at home often suffer in social settings. It is important for any parent who is planning on home schooling their child to make sure that their child interacts with other young people so that he or she can get used to navigating social situations. While many parents may be tempted to only allow their children around other children who are of the same faith or background, they are seldom doing their children a service. One of the benefits of a public school education is that a child is exposed to a diverse group of children, as they will most likely be later in life.
If a parent acts to make sure that their student receives sufficient social stimulation when being home schooled, they can expect to see some good results from the home school education. Many colleges look at a home school diploma in a positive light as they believe these students to be more academically advanced than those who learned in a traditional setting.
