What Is A Homeschool High School Diploma?

A home school high school diploma is just like an ordinary diploma from high school.  It has the name of the school, which is usually the home school name, and the name of the student.  The home school high school diploma is the same as any other high school diploma.  It signifies that a student has completed all of the general courses needed to meet the requirements of the state.

Each state in the union is different when it comes to high school requirements.  In order for a parent to home school a high school student, he or she must be well versed with which classes are needed in order to graduate high school.  A home school high school diploma is a general education diploma.  There is no specialty when it comes to high school classes.  While some students may take all college prep classes, others may prepare for the work force by taking business classes or even vocational classes.  However, upon graduation, the high school diploma is the same for all students.

No one ever really looks at a home school diploma any more than anyone looks at a high school diploma.  The transcripts are what follow a student to college, not a piece of paper that is handed out at a ceremony.  A student who is home schooled may be able to get into a premier college because of stellar academic performance, or he or she may be denied entry because of lack of extra curricular activities.  In order to combat the latter, many parents who choose to home school their high school students enroll them in extracurricular activities at the local high school.  Most schools have a provision that allows home schooled children to join in extra curricular activities such as sporting events as long as they live in the district. 

After a student earns a home school high school diploma, he or she is ready for college.  If they cannot venture out to a traditional college, they can continue with the home school process by learning online.  There are many different accredited online universities that can cater to a student who does not do well in a traditional classroom setting. 

Many parents who home school their children develop camaraderie with other parents who are also home schooling.  In many cases, they have graduation celebrations for the students who are graduating from high school.  The celebration is similar to a traditional high school graduation, without all of the many speeches, and is usually a lot shorter.  It can be followed by a party.  A student can then receive his or her home school high school diploma that marks the end of their childhood education and opens up the door of adulthood. 

In order to receive a home school high school diploma, a student must pass a test mandated by the state.  This insures that all classes were taught in accordance with state law.  The test is usually held in a state facility and is similar to a test given to someone who is earning a GED.  Once this test is completed and passed by the student, he or she is ready to move on to college and can thus earn their home school high school diploma.  The home school high school diploma can be issued by the state or can be a certificate issued by the parents.  The crucial aspect of this process is that the student pass the high school equivalency test in accordance with the rules of the state where the child resides.
