All About Online Homeschooling

Online home schooling is taking the educational world by storm.  Not only are online colleges really gaining respect in the workforce, but online home schooling is also becoming more common.  Not all parents have the abilities to home school their children.  But some children cannot learn in a traditional classroom setting.  Online home schooling can be the best option for a parent who cannot home school their child but whose child cannot attend traditional school.

There are many reasons why parents choose not to send their children to traditional school.  Homeschooling statistics have quadrupled in the past decade as more parents are looking for alternates to traditional schools and classrooms.  The rash of school shootings, drug abuse on campus, crime, gangs and ineffective learning has caused many parents to take matters into their own hands and teach their children at home.  An entire home schooling movement has formed and has blossomed considerably, especially in the past ten years.

Online home schooling is an alternate to learning that can be used in conjunction with regular home schooling or as a solution all on its own.  Some parents use online home schooling as a teaching method for classes that they have trouble teaching their children.  Others use this technology as the method for home schooling.  Online home schooling allows a child to work at his or her own pace and also gives them a certain degree of responsibility.  Lessons must be completed within a certain amount of time and tests are conducted online.  

Many parents who are attempting to home school high school students are turning to online home schooling.  There are many reasons why some high school students cannot attend school.  Some have medical conditions that prevent them from attending school in the traditional setting.  Others have mental conditions.  In some cases, the high school is actually a place of danger for a child.  Gang fights and police guards are common in some inner city high schools.  Many parents who do not want to subject their children to this type of environment, but who cannot afford to move nor are in the position to home school their children are opting for online home schooling.  This allows the child to learn at home, at his or her own pace, be safe and still frees the parent up to work or perform other necessary duties.  

As is the case with all home schooling, certain state mandated tests must be completed on a periodic basis by students to insure that they are indeed actually learning in this environment.  Each state has different rules and mandates when it comes to testing.  You need to check with your state educational program if you are thinking about using online home schooling for you child.  Online home schooling is quickly becoming a more popular alternative learning method.  Those who are watching the trends in the educational community predict that this trend will continue to grow.  Although students benefit greatly from social interactions in school, the need for safe schools has proven to be more important than the idea of social mixing.  For this reason, many believe that online home schooling may be the norm in 30 years and that traditional schooling may fall by the wayside.
