Pros Of Homeschooling

What Are The Pros Of Homeschooling

Pros Of Homeschooling

Many parents today are choosing to home school their children.  The pros of homeschooling far outweigh the cons as children who are home schooled often do much better academically than those who are schooled in a traditional setting.  Some of the pros of homeschooling include:

Children can learn at their own pace.
Some children end up either lagging behind in school because they cannot catch up or being bored because they are far ahead of the class.  It is not easy for a teacher to accommodate the needs of 30 individual students, so some children end up falling by the wayside.  One of the major pros of home schooling is that students can learn at their own pace.  If your child needs extra attention, or if he or she is flying through the work, studying at their own pace can benefit your student greatly.

Less Sick Days
Some days, kids do not feel like going to school.  A child who is sick will not only not learn well during school hours, but also infect other students.  One of the pros of homeschooling is that sick days are eliminated.  Your child can learn when they are feeling better.  You can even use the brief illness as a lesson on biology and how the immune system works.

More Interesting Lessons
A parent who is home schooling a child can make up more interesting lessons for his or her student.  Instead of just talking about the ancient Egyptians, why not visit the Natural History museum and learn about them first hand?  One of the pros of homeschooling is that parents can teach children any way they deem suitable, including hands on experience.  And they do not have to worry about renting a bus and getting permission from the school to take a field trip.  They can just get in the car and go.

Safety Features
It is a shame to say, but our children are no longer safe at school.  Where once school shootings were considered shocking and made the news, today it seems as if it is old hat.  People have become jaded to the idea of someone going into a school with a gun and killing students.  Every year, this tragedy occurs at a different school and every year innocent children die.  One of the pros of homeschooling is that your children are safe.  Unfortunately, because of the type of society in which we live, many parents who are home schooling their children are doing so because of this very reason.  Sad, but true.

Values
Many parents are not thrilled with the values that are taught in schools today.  Public schools often teach values that may conflict with some religious beliefs.  By teaching a child at home, a parent does not have to worry about the public school system undermining the values that they feel are important and want to instill in their children.  One of the primary pros of homeschooling is that parents are free to teach their religious beliefs and incorporate them into their lessons.  While some people choose to send their children to religious schools for this very same reason, many cannot afford to do this as these schools tend to cost substantial amount of money.  Homeschooling can allow a parent to still incorporate their religious values into their lessons and not have to worry about these values being undermined by the public school system.

No Bullying
Some children who have been the target of bullying have performed much better in home schooling settings.  Bullying can really destroy the self esteem of a child and distract him or her from their studies.   Although schools try to combat bullying in school, there is very little they can do to solve this problem.  One of the pros of homeschooling is that children are not subjected to bullying and can learn their lessons in peace.

There are many different pros of homeschooling and for some parents, this option is the best solution for any problems they may have with the public school system.  Many parents feel that their children will benefit from a one on one education instead of a learning in a group setting and relish the idea of spending this time with their children.  Home schooling may not be for everyone, but for some parents and children, it makes perfect sense.
